Welcome
this is the main page of the PopLab at Illinois
We are a research group led by Prof.
Eric
Pop in the Micro and Nanotechnology Lab (
MNTL) at
the University of Illinois (
UIUC).
Many of us are members of the Electrical and Computer Engineering
(
ECE)
department,
and also affiliated with the Beckman Institute (
BI).
Our research is in the area of solid-state electronics,
with collaborations in Materials Science,
Mechanical
Engineering and Physics. We are currently
investigating:
- Nanoscale energy transport and conversion
- Energy efficient electronic devices and integrated
circuits
- Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene for electronic and
thermal
applications
- Alternative solid-state memory, e.g. based on
phase-change materials like GeSbTe (GST)
We are pursuing these through experiments, characterization, and
multiscale
simulation approaches. Most experimental devices (CNTs, graphene, GST)
are built entirely in-house, here in MNTL. We are also
interested in the
fundamentals of charge and heat transfer in 1- and 2-dimensional
systems,
and across material interfaces.
